Actor Tony Caunter, known for his portrayal of Roy Evans in the popular TV series EastEnders, passed away at the age of 88, confirmed by his family.

Caunter played the character from 1994 to 2003, joining the show as a love interest for Pat Butcher, played by Pam St Clement, eventually leading to their on-screen marriage.

In a statement to the PA news agency, his family expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Tony, who peacefully passed away just eight days after his wife of 63 years, Fran. The statement highlighted Tony’s rich life both on and off screen, leaving behind a daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The family expressed gratitude towards the NHS staff at Eastbourne District General Hospital and the Eastbourne Gardens nursing home for the exceptional care provided to Tony in his final days.

Fans took to Twitter to mourn Tony’s passing, recalling his character Roy fondly. Tony Caunter was married to Frances Wallace for 63 years before her recent passing, and they had four children together.
