If you own an Android device, it is important to ensure you have the latest update from Google. The tech giant has recently confirmed the release of a crucial security patch to address a significant bug affecting Dolby audio components. This bug could potentially allow hackers to execute malicious code through audio attachments.
Although Google had fixed the issue on its own devices last month, the patch is now being rolled out to all Android phones. Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf, emphasized the seriousness of this vulnerability, noting that it was discovered in 2025 and has now been addressed at the platform level by Google.
The vulnerability, known as CVE-2025-54957, exploits a flaw in Dolby’s DD+ Unified Decoder, enabling attackers to run malicious code. The flaw is particularly concerning as audio attachments and voice messages are decoded locally on Android devices, making it exploitable without user interaction.
As a precaution, it is advisable to check and update your phone’s settings promptly. While iPhones are not affected by this specific issue, Apple users are encouraged to also check for updates to safeguard their personal data.
Boynton stressed the importance of regular patching as a key defense against mobile threats, regardless of using Android or iOS devices. Keeping devices updated is crucial in mitigating modern mobile risks.
To update your Android phone:
– Go to the Settings app on your device.
