A shocking video captured a daylight street attack outside a mobile phone store where an off-duty police officer intervened by shooting a suspected robber and assisting in the apprehension of another individual.
The incident unfolded recently on Avenida Paula Ferreira in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. Officer Luiz Fernando Souza Nunes de Viveiros, who was inside the store at the time, witnessed two men confronting a delivery driver outside.
Upon one of the suspects announcing a robbery, Officer Viveiros took action, firing his weapon and striking one of the suspects, identified as 26-year-old Michael Santos Preto, who died at the scene. The second suspect, 40-year-old Joao Renato Macedo dos Reis, attempted to flee but was subdued by members of the public shortly after.
Despite his attempt to shoot at the officer, the second suspect’s weapon malfunctioned. Forensic teams cordoned off the area for investigation, collecting evidence at the scene.
A statement from the Sao Paulo State Department of Public Security confirmed that the suspects resisted arrest, resulting in one fatality and the arrest of the other perpetrator on the spot.
