“Daughter’s Neglect Leads to Mother’s Death: Prison Sentence Sparks Outrage”

Must read

A heartless woman has been sentenced to prison for neglecting her elderly, disabled mother, leading to her tragic death in appalling conditions.

Colleen Sayegh, aged 38, admitted to failing in the care of her dependent mother and received a sentence of 15 months to eight years behind bars earlier in the current month.

Authorities discovered Sayegh’s mother in a dire state at their residence in Pennsylvania on July 19, 2022. The elderly woman, confined to a wheelchair, was found with severe wounds, dehydration, and critically low blood pressure. Tragically, she passed away two days after being found by the police.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the victim, who had suffered a stroke in February 2021, had been left unattended with festering sores and covered in waste for an extended period. The living conditions in the home were described as deplorable, with animal feces littering the floor and a strong stench pervading the premises.

Sayegh disclosed that she had not attended to her mother’s basic hygiene needs, neglected to seek medical help for her diabetic mother for over a year, and attempted to treat the wounds herself, causing intense pain to her mother.

An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was sepsis resulting from a severe skin infection likely due to the unsanitary conditions the victim was subjected to. Medical experts stated that had Sayegh properly cared for her mother, her chances of survival would have been significantly higher.

During the sentencing, Sayegh mentioned her mother had refused treatment, but the judge harshly criticized her actions, emphasizing the lack of humanity in her treatment of her own mother. The judge condemned Sayegh’s selfishness, stating that she prioritized her own needs over her mother’s well-being.

Although Sayegh was sentenced to a term ranging from 15 months to a maximum of eight years in prison, there has been public outrage over the perceived leniency of the sentence. Many individuals expressed anger and called for a harsher punishment for Sayegh’s appalling neglect.

One reader, David Netzoff, expressed his frustration, suggesting that a longer prison term would be more appropriate for Sayegh’s actions. Another commentator, RamboJohnJ, criticized Sayegh, noting a lack of remorse in her demeanor.
