Apple’s AirTag has become a must-have for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map accurately. AirTags, due to their small size, are versatile and can be attached to keys, placed in bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
When in close proximity to the tag, your iPhone provides precise on-screen directions, and the AirTag emits a sound to aid in locating it. The latest AirTag iteration boasts an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, significantly extending its range.
Apple claims that this update enhances Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it easier to locate lost items from greater distances. Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, enabling users to track misplaced items directly from their wrist.
Additionally, Apple has improved the AirTag’s internal speaker, increasing sound volume by 50%. This enhancement is beneficial for locating the AirTag in hard-to-reach places like under clutter or behind furniture.
The AirTags continue to utilize Apple’s extensive Find My network, leveraging nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. Apple has emphasized privacy in this system, assuring that AirTags do not store location history and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted end-to-end, ensuring only the owner can access its location.
The new AirTag seamlessly integrates with the Share Item Location feature on iOS, allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings like delayed luggage. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.
The latest AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected later this week. Moreover, prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original AirTag, which started at £35 upon release.
