“Fitness Tragedy: Husband Confesses to Shooting Wife”

Must read

Authorities were shocked by the gruesome scene they encountered after responding to a distress call reporting a woman being shot by her husband. Dave Meyer, then 69 years old, contacted 911 from his residence in Roy, Utah on January 21, 2023, confessing to fatally shooting his 62-year-old wife, Suzanne Meyer.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Suzanne lying face-down on the bed with her feet on the floor, appearing as though she had been in a kneeling position. She had succumbed to a single gunshot wound, as detailed in the Real Crime Psychology podcast, and emitted a strong odor of decomposition.

Offering an explanation for his delayed report to authorities, Meyer stated, “I guess I was in shock. I sat in my house and just tried to not focus on what I’d done.”

During a composed police interrogation, Meyer recounted how his once active and robust wife had been left in perpetual agony following a collision with a cyclist while jogging in Hawaii. He described the incident as having “totally destroyed her,” mentioning that she was a dedicated fitness enthusiast who maintained a rigorous workout routine.

Following the accident, Suzanne underwent spinal surgery with steel implants, rendering her incapable of comfortable sitting or standing, necessitating constant pain medication. Meyer claimed that his wife had beseeched him on multiple occasions to end her suffering, leading him to the decision to end her life with a gunshot to the head.

“I couldn’t stand to see her suffer any more,” Meyer confessed to the authorities, though conflicting testimonies surfaced from other witnesses painting a different narrative.

Suzanne’s sister, Sandy, vehemently denied any desire on Suzanne’s part to end her life, citing ongoing plans and activities. She refuted Meyer’s claims and alleged instances of coercion and threats within their relationship, asserting that Suzanne never expressed suicidal thoughts despite enduring excruciating pain.

Further revelations from a gym client implicated Meyer in an extramarital affair, shedding light on a strained relationship with his wife. The witness disclosed instances where Suzanne purportedly provoked Meyer to elicit a violent response for legal intervention.

The witness further revealed Meyer’s contemplation of killing his wife and ominous statements implying Suzanne’s imminent demise. Subsequently, facing substantial evidence, Dave Meyer opted for a plea deal in March 2023, admitting to murder in exchange for the dismissal of other charges. On May 10, 2024, at the second district court in Ogden, Utah, Judge Joseph Bean sentenced Meyer to 15 years to life imprisonment.

Presently, Dave Meyer is serving his sentence at the Utah State Prison.
