Limescale, also known as calcium carbonate or hard water deposits, can build up in your kettle over time, causing issues like restricted water flow, reduced heating efficiency, and potential corrosion. To maintain your kettle’s performance and longevity, it is essential to regularly clean and remove limescale buildup.
There are various methods available for effectively removing limescale from your kettle, with natural options being a popular choice among many households. Natural alternatives such as white vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, and citric acid are commonly used for this purpose.
In a recent video shared on TikTok under the account @sifaveli, Sifa Veli showcased her successful use of citric acid to dissolve limescale in her kettle, as reported by the Express. Sifa emphasized the importance of descaling her kettle due to living in an area with hard water, expressing satisfaction with the quick and natural descaling method.
She demonstrated adding one to two tablespoons of citric acid to the kettle, filling it halfway with water, and boiling the mixture to achieve impressive results after just one boil, completely eliminating limescale residue. Users can follow up by rinsing the kettle and boiling water for a second cycle, although this step is optional.
Feedback from other TikTok users highlighted the effectiveness of citric acid compared to alternatives like lemon and white vinegar. Recommendations included using a lemon by squeezing its juice into the kettle, letting it sit for half an hour, and then boiling it to tackle limescale.
To prevent limescale from recurring, it is advised to drain the kettle after each use to avoid stagnant water, a common cause of limescale accumulation, and maintain routine cleaning of the interior surfaces.
