This week, some households received Double Cold Weather Payments as the UK experienced snowfall. Cold Weather Payments, valued at £25 each, are granted when the average temperature falls to zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. In certain areas, households have qualified for two payments, totaling £50, triggered on December 30 and January 6.
To receive a Cold Weather Payment, individuals must be eligible for specific benefits or mortgage support. Payments are automated and typically deposited into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days. However, applying is necessary for those with a baby or a child under five moving in.
Funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the Cold Weather Payment scheme will continue until March 31, 2026. In Scotland, Cold Weather Payments have been replaced by the Winter Heating Payment, which amounts to £59.75.
The Mirror recently disclosed that 451 postcode areas have qualified for Cold Weather Payments this year. For individuals interested in money news and deals, joining the Money WhatsApp group or subscribing to Mirror’s Money newsletter can provide valuable insights and offers.
