Donald Trump is reportedly contemplating granting a Presidential pardon to P Diddy. The rapper and music mogul was sentenced to four years and two months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution.
Currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, New York City, Diddy, 55, has been held in the Special Housing Unit since September last year. However, he has requested to complete the remainder of his sentence in another prison.
Recent reports indicate that President Donald Trump is mulling over pardoning the disgraced musician. A Presidential pardon would provide legal forgiveness for a federal crime, ending the punishment and reinstating rights, including the right to vote.
Sources suggest that Trump has been indecisive in discussions with White House staff, despite urging from some quarters not to commute the sentence. Nevertheless, it is stated that Trump has the final say and may proceed as he wishes, with TMZ reporting a potential release for Diddy this week.
A spokesperson for President Trump vehemently denied the speculation, dismissing the TMZ report as untrue. The spokesperson emphasized that the President holds the ultimate authority on pardons and commutations. Trump previously mentioned that Diddy had approached him for a pardon but did not confirm his decision.
Efforts to obtain comments from Diddy’s legal team and representatives regarding Trump’s statements have been made. Diddy’s lawyers are hopeful that a transfer to a lower-security prison in New Jersey, specifically FCI Fort Dix, will assist in his rehabilitation by addressing drug abuse issues and promoting family visitation.
Diddy, arrested under the federal Mann Act, has faced a challenging legal battle, resulting in his current imprisonment. Despite being acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which could have led to a life sentence, Diddy may see a reduction in his sentence based on time served.
In a letter to the judge before sentencing, Diddy expressed his commitment to personal growth and sobriety. He highlighted a spiritual transformation and a dedication to a drug-free, non-violent lifestyle.
Currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn since September 2024, Diddy’s time served may contribute to a potential release in approximately three years.
