In a disturbing incident, a man was robbed by a gang pretending to be police officers who then fled in a car equipped with flashing blue lights and sirens. The frightening attack occurred on College Road in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, at approximately 2 pm on Monday, August 27.
Video footage captured the victim being grabbed around the throat by two of the perpetrators while another snatched his bag. The criminals managed to steal a watch and food delivery items before speeding away in a counterfeit police vehicle.
The dashcam footage depicted an unmarked Skoda swiftly reversing with sirens blaring and blue lights flashing from its front. The gang members were all clad in jeans, dark jackets, and wore caps resembling undercover police attire.
Witnesses bravely confronted the robbers as the victim was dragged along with the car down the street. Eventually, the victim broke free as the modified vehicle collided with several parked cars before fleeing the scene.
A representative from West Midlands Police stated, “We are currently investigating a robbery following a collision involving multiple vehicles on College Road in Washwood Heath around 2 pm on Monday. The offenders, posing as police officers, stole various items from a man, including a watch and food delivery items. The vehicle then escaped using blue lights and a siren.”
Authorities suspect that two vehicles were involved in the robbery and urge anyone with information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings to contact them at 101, quoting crime number 20/423537/25.
