Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp Injured in Chainsaw Mishap

Must read

Martin Kemp suffered a severe injury likened to a scene from a horror movie after an accident with a chainsaw at his home, leaving his hand heavily bandaged. The Spandau Ballet star, aged 64, was reportedly trying to trim a branch in Hertfordshire when the incident occurred. His son, Roman Kemp, shared details of the mishap on a podcast with singer Tom Grennan.

Roman revealed that Martin sent a brief message to the family WhatsApp group simply stating “yep, chainsaw,” accompanied by a photo of his heavily bandaged fingers. Concerned, Roman and his sister Harley tried to reach out to their father, who initially did not respond to their messages. Eventually, Roman decided to call Martin to check on his well-being.

Martin explained that the accident happened while he was trying to chop down a branch without the chainsaw’s protective sheath on. Luckily, he did not lose his hand, although he had to undergo medical treatment, including a tetanus shot. Tom Grennan remarked that Martin was fortunate not to have suffered a more severe injury, joking that Shirlie Holliman would be upset if he couldn’t play the guitar.

Reflecting on the incident, Roman criticized his father for not hiring a professional for the task, especially considering Martin’s age. Despite the ordeal, Martin rose to fame as part of Spandau Ballet with his brother Gary Kemp, achieving success with hit songs like “Gold” and “True.”
