WhatsApp Introduces Parent-Managed Accounts for Pre-Teens

Must read

WhatsApp is set to release a significant update aimed at alleviating concerns for parents. This forthcoming change will empower adults to implement specific controls on devices, preventing pre-teens from accessing certain features or participating in group chats without authorization.

Furthermore, parents or guardians will have the ability to determine who can reach the account, safeguarding against unsolicited messages from strangers. They will also have the option to review message requests from unfamiliar contacts and manage the account’s privacy settings.

According to WhatsApp, the platform is renowned for being a trusted mode of family communication due to its simplicity, privacy, and reliability. The company stated, “With insights from families and experts, we are introducing new parent-managed accounts that enable parents or guardians to establish WhatsApp for pre-teens, incorporating controls to restrict their usage to messaging and calling.”

The process involves linking the accounts of the family member and the parent or guardian by having both devices side by side. Once set up, the accounts will be under the control of the parent or guardian, who can exclusively access and modify privacy settings, customizing the family’s experience.

All personal conversations are safeguarded with end-to-end encryption, ensuring privacy and protection from unauthorized access. WhatsApp plans to implement this update gradually in the upcoming months, seeking feedback to enhance the platform’s safety and privacy for family connections.
