“Defendant Disrespects Judge in Drug Ring Sentencing”

Must read

A defendant disrespected a judge, using derogatory language, before receiving a 21-year prison sentence. This incident occurred during the sentencing of a criminal group involved in illegal activities, resulting in lengthy jail terms totaling nearly 50 years. The group, led by Scott Howard and Anthony Nelson, oversaw heroin and cocaine supply operations known as the “Rice Lane drug dealing fraternity.” They employed individuals like Liam Duffy and Terry Riley in their criminal activities.

During the court proceedings at Liverpool Crown Court, prosecutor Nicola Daley detailed the criminal operations that had been active since late 2022. Duffy, attempting to evade arrest, was apprehended on April 17, 2023, after discarding an incriminating phone linked to the Wong Line. Additionally, a Skorpion submachine gun, linked to previous shootings, was found in possession of a customer, Anthony Bosenquet, in Walton.

The firearm was tied to two separate incidents, one involving a shooting in Wavertree where a woman was injured and another in Stoneycroft where shots were fired into a residence. DNA evidence from drug users Bell and Moore, associated with the Wong Line, was discovered on the gun. Howard’s arrest near Rice Lane Recreation Ground revealed further criminal activities, leading to the recovery of illicit items in a wooded area.

Howard, with a history of criminal offenses, was sentenced to 21 years and two months for various charges, including conspiracy to possess a prohibited firearm. Duffy and Riley received prison terms of eight years and six years, respectively, for their involvement in drug supply operations. Moore and Bell were also convicted for their roles in possessing a prohibited firearm, receiving sentences of five and six years, respectively.

Tensions arose in court when the judge categorized Howard’s charges differently than expected, causing disruptions among onlookers. Despite the chaos, the legal proceedings continued, and the defendants were duly sentenced for their criminal activities.
