Gorka Marquez made a heartfelt request to Gemma Atkinson following a nighttime ordeal. The pair, who crossed paths on the TV show Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, recently introduced a new furry family member.
They adopted a golden doodle puppy named Benji in May, just before Gorka embarked on his Speakeasy tour alongside fellow Strictly pro Karen Hauer. Gemma shared that the pup became inseparable from her while Gorka was away.
Benji eventually started sharing the couple’s bed with Gemma. During their Lost in Translation podcast, Gorka disclosed that Benji now surprises him at night by licking his ear and sometimes awkwardly landing on the bed.
Gorka mentioned, “Since returning home, Benji has gotten used to being in bed with us. Every night, he jumps in and out, sometimes disturbing us with his playful antics.” Gemma clarified that Benji spends most of the night resting on the floor next to their bed.
Despite this, Gorka revealed an incident where Benji took over his spot in bed while he was tending to their son Thiago at 5:30 a.m. Gemma joked about getting another dog, prompting Gorka to playfully suggest leaving if that happened.
Gorka admitted to urging Gemma to reconsider Benji sleeping in their bed upon his return. Gemma, however, mentioned that Gorka sleeps better alone and emphasized that sleeping separately doesn’t diminish their love for each other.
While Gorka expressed his affection for the dog, he stressed the importance of Benji sleeping elsewhere. He stated, “I adore the dog, but he needs to sleep downstairs.”
The couple’s dynamic with Benji in the bedroom has sparked discussions about alternative sleeping arrangements, highlighting the importance of individual preferences for a restful night’s sleep.
