“Highgate Restaurant Don Ciccio Closes Due to Lack of Local Support”

Must read

The proprietor of an Italian dining establishment directed criticism towards local residents for the establishment’s closure in a blunt farewell statement. Marco Claudio Valente expressed dismay over the lack of patrons frequenting Don Ciccio in Highgate, North London, opting for takeout from other eateries instead. The restaurant ceased operations after six years of service.

Valente emphasized that despite efforts to maintain quality and service, Don Ciccio had to shutter due to a lack of patronage rather than any issues with food, reviews, or pricing. He noted feeling disheartened by the community’s indifference, leading to the restaurant’s demise.

The eatery, renowned for its traditional Italian cuisine with dishes such as pizzas priced at £18 and a £26 risotto, had garnered accolades, including being named Traveller’s Choice on TripAdvisor from 2023 to 2025. However, recent challenges, including consistently empty tables, led to Valente’s staff feeling demoralized.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Valente expressed frustration at the meager daily revenue, attributing the closure to insufficient community support rather than the financial status of patrons. Despite the setback, Valente aims to leverage his hospitality experience to launch a new restaurant in London.

Local business owner Mario Seyho acknowledged Valente’s disappointment, mentioning the history of closures in the area. Seyho highlighted the struggle for restaurants in that location, echoing Valente’s sentiments on the challenges faced by establishments in the vicinity.

Don Ciccio, established in 2019 and known for its high Google rating, reflects Valente’s determination to persevere in the hospitality industry despite setbacks.
