Kai Trump, the granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, recently revealed her upcoming debut on the LPGA Tour later this year. The prestigious Annika Driven By Gainbridge event is scheduled to be held at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, in November, marking Kai’s first appearance on the LPGA Tour and serving as one of the penultimate events of the year.
Kai, who had accompanied her grandfather at the Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black, New York, in September, received a custom gift from Whoop, a sponsor of the tournament, typically reserved for Team USA players and staff. The 18-year-old golfer, currently on a break from her studies at the University of Miami, announced her participation in the $3.25 million (£2.46m) prize fund Annika event through a social media post.
In a video message to her 910,000 followers, Kai expressed her excitement about competing at The Annika Driven By Gainbridge tournament, fulfilling her dream of playing at the professional level. She thanked the Pelican Golf Club for the invitation and anticipated the challenge of competing against top players in the world at the renowned venue.
Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, is not only an amateur golfer but also a rising star in the sport. Despite being ranked 979th on the Universal Golf Rankings among junior girls, the upcoming event in Florida will pose a significant test in her golfing career. With over six million followers on social media, Kai has also ventured into the world of fashion with an apparel and lifestyle brand targeting young female athletes.
Acknowledging the importance of sponsor invitations in showcasing emerging talent, Ricki Lasky, the chief tour business and operations officer at the LPGA, praised Kai’s influence in introducing golf to new audiences, especially among younger fans. The Annika tournament, set to feature top golfers like Charley Hull and defending champion Nelly Korda, promises an exciting competition for players and fans alike.
