Police provided an important update on the status of several individuals following a mass stabbing incident on a train in Huntingdon. Responding to the incident at around 7:40 pm on Saturday, armed police swiftly arrived at the Cambridgeshire station. Two British men, aged 32 and 35, were apprehended after the assault on the train heading to London. Initially, reports indicated that nine people were urgently taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
As of today, it was disclosed that two individuals are still in critical condition. Superintendent John Loveless from the British Transport Police mentioned that a total of 11 individuals received medical care at the hospital due to the knife attack. Among them, 10 were transported by emergency services, while one sought medical attention independently. Thankfully, several victims have already been discharged from the hospital.
During a press briefing on Sunday morning, Supt Loveless stated, “Ten people were transported to the hospital by ambulance, and another person self-presented later that evening.” He further explained, “Initially, nine individuals were thought to have life-threatening injuries, but I am pleased to announce that four have been released. Nevertheless, two patients are still in a critical condition.”
The police arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder, who are currently in custody. The detained individuals include a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent. Supt Loveless commended the prompt response of officers and paramedics at Huntington station, where the suspects were apprehended within eight minutes of the emergency call. The suspects are being held in separate police stations for interrogation, and authorities have ruled out the incident as a terrorist act.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the courage of train staff and passengers during the attack and confirmed that the incident was not linked to terrorism. Expressing gratitude to the emergency services, she emphasized their swift and professional actions that saved lives. Additionally, King Charles, through a statement from Buckingham Palace, expressed shock and sympathy for the victims and their families, commending the emergency response to the tragic event.
