The recent Pride of Britain Awards 2025, hosted by The Mirror, highlighted the remarkable achievements of everyday individuals who have made extraordinary contributions. Marcus Skeet, a renowned charity runner and mental health advocate, was honored with a Special Recognition Award during the event. To further support mental health initiatives, a special GoFundMe campaign for the charity Mind was launched in Marcus’s honor.
The funds raised through the campaign will be used to establish mental health walking and running groups nationwide, known as Marcus’s Movers. These groups, which include mental health professionals, require a setup cost of £2,500 each. The donation drive began with a generous contribution of £5,000 from Sam and Pete on stage, followed by additional donations from various personalities.
Notably, entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne’s £20,000 donation brought the total raised during the event to £50,000, enough to sponsor 20 Marcus’s Movers groups. Expressing his gratitude, Marcus conveyed his heartfelt thanks for the support received. The initiative aims to create more Marcus’s Movers groups across the UK, providing vital mental health support in local communities.
Marcus’s journey, from personal struggles to becoming a record-breaking fundraiser, serves as an inspiration. His dedication to raising awareness for mental health through running has garnered significant donations for Mind, including from his landmark run from Land’s End to John O’Groats, covering 874 miles. Marcus has shared his story on social media to encourage others facing similar challenges, emphasizing the positive impact of physical activity on mental health.
