A terrifying incident occurred on Saturday night when a man with a 6-inch kitchen knife launched a brutal eight-minute attack on a train that had been diverted to Huntingdon. One woman has shared her harrowing escape from the assailant as he threatened her onboard the train.
Just minutes after Dayna Arnold, 48, and her partner Andy Gray, 37, boarded the LNER Azuma headed to London, chaos erupted at the other end of their coach. The attacker, who had boarded at Peterborough Station, began stabbing multiple passengers.
Andy, a site manager, described the panic and horror he witnessed as the attacker wielded the knife. In the midst of the chaos, Dayna found herself face to face with the knifeman after they got separated in the commotion.
Recalling the frightening encounter, Dayna recounted how she pleaded with the attacker not to harm her as she ran for safety. Fortunately, they managed to escape the assailant and reflected on their luck at surviving the ordeal.
During the chaos, Andy bravely assisted a young man who had been stabbed, applying a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. After fleeing the scene, the couple was provided accommodation at a local pub before continuing their journey.
British Transport Police provided an update stating that a heroic LNER staff member injured in the attack remains hospitalized after attempting to stop the attacker. They confirmed that five individuals have been discharged from the hospital, while one remains in critical condition.
Authorities clarified that the incident is not believed to be terror-related, and a 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder is currently the sole suspect in custody. Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy assured the public that investigations are ongoing, focusing on the suspect’s background and the events leading up to the attack.
