EDF introduces a new promotion where customers can earn free electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak hours on weekdays. This initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, requires customers to shift their electricity consumption away from the peak hours of 4pm to 7pm each weekday.
Customers who participate in the challenge will receive between four and 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday. EDF customers can participate in four Sunday Saver challenges throughout February and early March – on February 15, 22, and March 1 and 8. Those with smart meters can sign up for the promotion until February 1.
According to EDF, over 260,000 households have already benefited from more than 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver challenge, resulting in £5.2 million in bill credits for customers. Additionally, during Christmas, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, with EDF granting a total of 910,536 free hours of electricity to households.
One satisfied participant, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, having earned over 680 free hours on Sundays. She mentioned how the challenge helped her family manage living costs by adjusting their electricity usage patterns.
Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, highlighted the importance of the Sunday Saver initiative, especially during the winter months when energy bills tend to be higher. He emphasized that this program not only helps customers save on bills but also contributes to a more sustainable electricity grid.
Customers can monitor their Sunday Saver progress through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, enabling them to track their household’s energy usage. Additionally, EDF is offering £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs, providing five hours of cheaper electricity every night between 12am and 5am for both homes and electric cars.
By focusing on shifting electricity consumption away from peak hours, EDF aims to help customers save on bills while promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
