Here’s some great news – some of the most nutritious foods double as ideal snacks. Interestingly, three out of the top 10 most nutritious foods are convenient snacks readily available at supermarkets, according to a report by Surrey Live.
The top 10 list also includes an unexpected meat option, three varieties of fish, a fruit, and some vegetables.
This compilation was derived from a study titled Uncovering the Nutritional Landscape of Food conducted in 2015. In this study, over 1,000 foods were analyzed, each receiving a nutritional rating. Maintaining a balanced diet is key to good health – incorporating a range of highly nutritious foods that offer essential nutrients necessary for optimal well-being.
Various experts in the fields of science, nutrition, and food, such as Professor Tim Spector from Zoe, recommend aiming to include 30 different plants in your weekly diet.
Almonds are rich in antioxidants, protein, fiber, as well as essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium. They are a nutrient-dense option that supports heart health, containing unsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols, magnesium, vitamin E, copper, and manganese.
Chia seeds and pumpkin seeds have secured the 5th and 6th positions, respectively, in a superfoods ranking due to their nutritional advantages. These tiny but powerful seeds can be sprinkled on healthy snacks like Greek yogurt or hummus for added texture.
