“Journeyman Jake Pollard Suffers 100th Loss in Pro Boxing”

Must read

Jake Pollard marked his 100th loss in professional boxing with a second-round technical knockout during the undercard of the Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley fight. Meanwhile, Hassan Ishaq extended his unbeaten streak to 3-0 after defeating Pollard at the O2 Arena.

Pollard, a 33-year-old farrier specializing in fitting horses with shoes, has now endured a 51-fight losing streak, with his sole victory recorded in July 2023 against Louis Smithson. Notably, Pollard has suffered four defeats in October alone, with his latest loss occurring on a prominent fight card.

During the match, Ishaq delivered a decisive uppercut that led to Pollard’s defeat in the second round. The boxer from Yorkshire found himself on his knees as the referee, Mark Bates, intervened and ended the fight.

Having already participated in 17 fights this year, with three more bouts scheduled, Pollard’s boxing journey has been remarkable. His only triumph emerged amidst a 49-fight losing streak, and he currently faces a string of 51 matches without a win.

Reflecting on his victory over Smithson two years ago, Pollard expressed his satisfaction with the fight outcome, emphasizing the importance of leaving the ring without serious injuries. Despite the challenges faced by journeymen in boxing, Pollard highlighted the fulfillment derived from facing top prospects and putting up a competitive performance.

For journeyman boxers like himself, Pollard acknowledged that the referee’s decision or judges’ scorecards hold less significance compared to the experience gained from each fight. He emphasized the resilience and determination required to continue in a sport where victories are rare, underscoring the value of competitiveness over expectations of winning.

Despite the setbacks, Pollard remains committed to showcasing his best in the ring, striving to offer a compelling performance in each match he undertakes.
