Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are reportedly requesting two homes as part of their departure from the Royal Lodge. The 65-year-old prince is apparently engaged in talks to vacate his 30-room Royal Lodge residence voluntarily due to the controversy surrounding the minimal rent he currently pays for the Windsor property.
According to sources, negotiations with King’s aides involve Andrew’s reluctance to give up his more than 20-year residence, with key issues revolving around the location of his new home and financial reimbursement for lodge renovations. In discussions with the Palace, Andrew is seeking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former residence, Frogmore Cottage, while Sarah Ferguson aims to move into nearby Adelaide Cottage after Prince William and Kate’s departure next month.
A friend of the couple mentioned to The Sun that arrangements are uncertain, stating that both cottages offer space for their daughters Eugenie and Beatrice to visit. Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew’s representatives have been approached for comments by the Mirror.
Reports suggest that Prince William has requested Andrew to vacate Royal Lodge by Bonfire Night to accommodate his move with Princess Kate to Forest Lodge. The source revealed that William is eager for Andrew’s departure before their relocation, emphasizing the need to act as instructed rather than based on Andrew’s preferences.
Meanwhile, discussions in the House of Commons may address Prince Andrew’s behavior, his mansion, and the potential revocation of his dukedom. The Government has not scheduled a debate on Andrew’s situation, but it could arise when ministers do not control the parliamentary schedule. The Liberal Democrats have hinted at using an opposition day to allow MPs to deliberate on Andrew’s conduct.
Although Andrew relinquished his Duke of York title recently, only a parliamentary law can officially strip him of it.
