The provincial police oversight body is looking into a collision involving a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, on Friday. According to a spokesperson from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the incident occurred when a Durham Regional Police Service officer was responding to an emergency call on Kingston Road around 7:30 p.m. The collision between the police cruiser and the civilian vehicle took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road, resulting in the occupants of the civilian vehicle being taken to the hospital. A child in the civilian vehicle sustained a serious injury, as confirmed by the SIU spokesperson.
Durham police acknowledged that their officers were en route to a call when the collision occurred at Kingston Road and Brock Road. The SIU was notified and initiated its investigation, said Constable Nick Gluckstein in an email to CBC Toronto. Following the incident, Durham police informed the public via social media that Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, with Brock Road closed to southbound traffic from Finch Avenue for the collision probe. By 2 a.m. on Saturday, Durham police reported that the roadways had reopened for traffic.
