Renowned rock singer Sass Jordan, who hailed from Montreal and enjoyed a successful career spanning nearly four decades, passed away at the age of 65. The news of her death was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who mentioned that she was surrounded by loved ones at the time. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Described as an incomparable force of nature and a beacon of light and joy, Jordan made her mark in the music industry with her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” released in 1988. She was honored with the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989. Her second album, “Racine,” introduced hits like “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, Jordan received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and served as a judge on all six seasons of the reality TV show “Canadian Idol.” Born on December 23, 1960, in Birmingham, England, she was raised in Montreal.

Geoff Kulawick, the former president of Stony Plain Records, praised Jordan as a fearless, beautiful, and courageous artist. Her last two albums, “Rebel Moon Blues” in 2020 and “Bitches Blues” in 2022, were recorded with her husband Derek Sharp under Stony Plain Records.

Derek Downham, a Canadian producer and songwriter, fondly recalled his friendship with Jordan, emphasizing her uplifting spirit and humor. He expressed his sadness at the thought of never hearing her laughter again. Jordan’s influence as one of the few women in rock during her early career was acknowledged as she paved the way for other female artists in a predominantly male-dominated genre.

Downham highlighted Jordan’s impact on aspiring performers, emphasizing her legacy of leading with love and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
