Must read

Ottawa is introducing a new federal entity, Digital Transformation Canada, to enhance Canadians’ interaction with government services through digital technologies. The Prime Minister’s Office revealed the establishment of this organization, which aims to revolutionize the government’s approach to technology procurement and utilization, among other key objectives.

The appointment of Patrick Pichette as the CEO of Digital Transformation Canada was also announced. Pichette, who previously served as Google’s chief financial officer and held executive positions at various prominent companies, brings extensive expertise in digital transformation and innovation to the role.

Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed confidence in Pichette’s ability to drive essential digital initiatives forward. The new agency will focus on implementing digital solutions, such as artificial intelligence, across government operations to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and bolster digital security and sovereignty.

Carney emphasized that by modernizing service delivery, eliminating redundancies, and supporting Canadian tech firms, the economy will strengthen, benefiting Canadians and positioning Canada as a digital leader. Additionally, the agency will empower public servants with tools to streamline administrative processes and allocate federal resources to aid Canadian AI and digital companies in developing and commercializing new technologies.

The oversight of Digital Transformation Canada will be under Minister Joël Lightbound of Government Transformation, Public Works, and Procurement. The agency will merge Shared Services Canada with select departments to streamline operations and drive digital innovation within the government.
