A recent fire in Naujaat, Nunavut, has caused damage to construction materials designated for a public housing project in the area. The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) mentioned that it is currently uncertain if this incident will impact the project’s timeline. The fire, which occurred close to the hamlet’s waterfront on Wednesday night, was promptly responded to by the local fire department, according to Naujaat’s senior administrative officer, Chantal Pelletier.
The NHC specified that the materials were allocated for an eight-unit public housing development. They are presently awaiting the fire chief’s report and collaborating with the project contractor and local authorities to evaluate the extent of the destruction. The completion date for the eight-unit housing project is set for June 2027, with the NHC spokesperson stating that it is premature to determine how the fire may affect this timeline. Furthermore, the RCMP spokesperson stated that there is no available information regarding the fire’s cause or whether an investigation is underway.
