“Aileen Wuornos Documentary Uncovers Fellow Inmate’s Story”

Must read

A new documentary on Netflix delves into the life and crimes of Aileen Wuornos, a notorious serial killer. The film also sheds light on the story of her fellow inmate, Deirdre Hunt.

Between 1989 and 1990, Aileen Wuornos carried out a series of murders in Florida, resulting in the deaths of seven men. She was eventually executed in 2002 for her heinous acts. Prior to her execution, Wuornos exhibited signs of paranoia while incarcerated at the Lowell Correctional Institution, as detailed in the Netflix documentary.

Deirdre Hunt, who served time alongside Wuornos, was involved in the murders of Kevin Ramsey and Bryan Chase in 1989, committed with her ex-boss and boyfriend, Kosta Fotopoulos. Hunt was initially sentenced to death but later had her sentence commuted to two consecutive life terms in 1998.

Despite escaping the death penalty, Hunt will spend the remainder of her life behind bars, despite her previous attempts to appeal the verdict. Recent social media posts indicate that Hunt has been active in prison, working as a law clerk and even teaching yoga to fellow inmates.

For those interested in learning more, the documentary “Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers” is now available for streaming on Netflix.
