“British Tourist Dies in Canary Islands Railing Collapse”

Must read

A British tourist, aged 56, tragically passed away in the Canary Islands after falling approximately 20 feet due to a hotel railing collapsing. Another visitor, aged 54, was also involved in the incident in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, sustaining serious injuries. The 56-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene, while the other individual was rushed to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in critical condition.

The emergency unfolded around 1:30 am when authorities received reports of the fall from a substantial height within the hotel premises. The response included the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and the Spanish Civil Guard.

Local sources indicate that the railing that failed was located in an elevated section of the hotel complex. The Civil Guard has initiated an inquiry to ascertain any negligence in the maintenance of the railing or the overall safety protocols of the hotel.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office stated, “We are offering assistance to the families of a deceased British man and an injured British man in Spain.” This incident follows a previous case in August, where a 22-year-old British tourist suffered severe injuries after falling from a hotel balcony in Ibiza. The incident occurred at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio.
