Denise Welch Reflects on Life with Rockstar Son

Must read

Denise Welch, known for her role on Loose Women, recently shared a poignant moment when she realized that her life would change forever with her son, Matty Healy, who is the frontman of The 1975. Denise, who shares Matty with her ex-husband Tim Healy, reflected on the challenges she faced during that time.

Back when Denise, 67, was working on Coronation Street and living in Cheshire, Matty formed The 1975 with his schoolmates Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. Denise and Tim allowed the band to use their garage for rehearsals, even though it meant navigating through members of other bands who often crashed there after a night out.

Denise vividly remembers the turning point when The 1975 released their hit song “Chocolate” in 2013, which propelled them to success in both the US and UK. She shared these memories during an interview on the How to Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day, recalling how the band’s early days revolved around their garage rehearsals.

The proud mother expressed mixed emotions about watching Matty perform with the band, acknowledging the impact of their international success on their family dynamic. She humorously mentioned how fans sometimes see her as “the Virgin Mary” and joked about the songs being her pension after enduring 42 hours of labor to bring Matty into the world.

Denise’s candid reflections offer a unique insight into the journey of The 1975 and the personal challenges that come with raising a rockstar.
