Nigel Farage is under pressure to address his lack of response following a controversial statement made by Reform MP Sarah Pochin regarding diverse representation in advertisements. Pochin’s comments, expressing frustration at seeing non-white individuals in commercials, have sparked outrage, with Labour Party chair Anna Turley demanding an explanation from Farage for his silence on the matter.
During an appearance on Talk TV, Pochin voiced her discontent with ads featuring Black and Asian people, stating her agitation at the lack of white representation. Turley criticized Pochin’s remarks as racist and called on Farage to take action by removing Pochin from Reform UK.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting condemned Pochin’s comments as disgraceful, highlighting Farage’s silence as telling. Deputy PM David Lammy labeled Pochin’s statements as “terribly racist” and urged Farage to dismiss her for her offensive remarks.
In response to the backlash, Pochin issued an apology, acknowledging that her comments were poorly phrased and unintentionally offensive. However, she stood by her assertion that many adverts do not accurately reflect British society. Streeting accused her of insincerity, claiming she only regretted being caught.
Lammy denounced Pochin’s remarks as mean and racist, emphasizing the need for unity and respect in a diverse society. He called for Farage to take decisive action against Pochin and apologize for her statements. The Mirror has sought a response from Reform UK on the matter.
