The 65-year-old Norwegian, who is married to ex-Olympic middle-distance runner Diane Modahl, is accused of two instances of raping a child and five instances of sexually assaulting a child.

Known as Jose Vicente Leiva-Modahl, he resided in the UK and now faces additional charges, including two counts of causing a child to participate in sexual activities and two counts of penetrating a child.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Modahl is facing a total of 19 charges spanning from 2012 to 2024. These charges encompass offenses such as two counts of raping an adult female, two counts of sexually assaulting an adult female, and various other sexual assault charges.

James Bolton-Smith, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS’s Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the prosecution of Vicente Leiva-Modahl for several severe sex offenses, particularly those involving child sexual abuse.” Modahl is set to appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Over the years, Modahl has coached British and international athletes, including Team GB members and an Olympic gold medalist, spanning multiple decades. His LinkedIn profile also mentions his work as a FIFA-licensed sports agent.

The CPS emphasized the importance of respecting the active legal proceedings and ensuring the suspect’s right to a fair trial. They urged against any reporting, commentary, or online sharing that could potentially bias the legal process.
