Paul Gascoigne’s life journey is set to be adapted into a television series, as casting directors are currently seeking actors to portray his family members. The upcoming show will depict his remarkable transformation from a modest upbringing in Gateshead to his pinnacle of fame during Italia ’90.
Gascoigne, the renowned English footballer, has expressed his commitment to honestly portraying his struggles with addiction and his stints in rehabilitation facilities both domestically and internationally. Auditions are underway to select actors for pivotal roles in the series, including his siblings Carl, Lindsay, and Anna.
In a candid account, the 58-year-old Gazza revealed the traumatic ordeal of battling alcoholism, recounting a moment during rehab in Arizona in 2013 when he felt he had hit rock bottom. The TV series, titled “Gazza: The Life Story,” will also feature his family members, particularly highlighting the influence of his resilient mother, Carol, who continues to be a pillar of strength at 82 years old.
Reflecting on his early years, Gascoigne reminisced about his supportive parents, with his father’s gift of a football at age seven igniting his passion for the sport. His upcoming book, ‘Eight,’ published by Reach Sport, delves into poignant moments like his emotional return to Heathfield School in 1990 after a heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup semi-final against Germany.
Despite gaining global recognition for his football prowess, Gascoigne’s journey was not without obstacles. He sought out a former teacher to prove that discouraging children from pursuing their dreams is detrimental. Discussions are ongoing with several television networks to secure a broadcasting deal for the anticipated drama series.
Moreover, the 2022 documentary ‘Gazza,’ which aired on BBC2, received accolades at the prestigious 2023 Royal TV Society Awards for the ‘Best Documentary Series.’ Fans can look forward to Gascoigne’s book release on October 23rd, available for pre-order on Amazon.
