“Google Chrome to Stop Support for Older macOS Versions”

Must read

Google has announced that it will no longer support its Chrome browser on older versions of Apple’s macOS platform for MacBook users. While Chrome will remain functional on MacBooks and iMacs, it will stop receiving updates and security patches, potentially leaving users vulnerable to cyber threats and technical issues.

The change will impact users of Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier, as Google will discontinue Chrome updates for these systems. To continue using Chrome securely, affected users will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura.

Unfortunately, some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Air models bought before 2018, are incompatible with macOS Ventura. This may require affected users to consider purchasing a new device to ensure safe Chrome usage. The update is set to take effect from July this year.

Google confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the last to support macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome version 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users must ensure their devices are running macOS 13 or later to receive future Chrome updates.

While older Chrome versions will still function, no further updates will be provided for users on macOS 12. Google advises users on macOS 12 to transition to a supported macOS version, macOS 13 Ventura or newer, to continue receiving the latest security updates and Chrome features.
