“Life Sentence for Man Who Killed Pregnant Girlfriend”

Must read

A man convicted of murder has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 42 years, for fatally stabbing his pregnant girlfriend after she refused to terminate their unborn child.

Shaine March, who was on parole at the time, attacked 32-year-old Alana Odysseos in her residence in Walthamstow, east London, inflicting 19 stab wounds. March later confessed to the police, admitting he had killed her.

During the court proceedings at the Old Bailey, March declined to appear in person, stating it was just a sentencing matter. Despite requests from Alana’s family and the prosecution for his presence, March appeared via videolink from Belmarsh prison.

The judge highlighted the severity of the attack, emphasizing the sustained violence and the targeting of Alana’s reproductive organs. March had a history of coercive and controlling behavior towards Alana, as evidenced by previous incidents.

March had a criminal record and had previously served time for fatally stabbing a man in 2000. Despite being released on license multiple times, he was involved in further violent incidents.

Alana, who had two young daughters, had been urged by family and friends to leave March due to his violent and controlling nature. On the night of the attack, she refused his demand for an abortion, expressing her desire to keep the baby.

Witnesses reported hearing Alana pleading not to harm her unborn child during the tragic incident. Alana had faced abuse and control from March, leading to isolation from her social circle.

The prosecutor highlighted the brutality of the crime and March’s lack of remorse. The court condemned March’s actions, emphasizing the tragic loss suffered by Alana’s family and the broader impact of violence against women.

The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of safeguarding individuals from such harmful situations.
