“London Convenience Store Goes Viral for Homemade Curries and DJ Sessions”

Must read

Prepare to view your local convenience store differently after this revelation. A Londis store in London has captured widespread attention for offering homemade curries and hosting DJ sessions.

Situated in Stoke-Newington, Anju and her 85-year-old mother-in-law have become online sensations for preparing authentic Gujarati cuisine and retailing it at the N16 corner store. Their family-operated establishment now has over 13,000 followers on Instagram, showcasing visually appealing food photographs, behind-the-scenes snapshots, and a collection of memes.

During a recent conversation with LondONtheinside, Anju’s son Priyesh shared that his mother leaves work early every Tuesday and Thursday to cook alongside his grandmother. Anju humorously remarked, “We never tire and prefer to stay active!”

As per their Instagram profile, the shop serves meals on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, in addition to providing catering services. Among their enticing dishes are samosas, stuffed peppers, butter paneer, lemon chutney, and pistachio tiramisu.

The store has garnered a dedicated following, with British band Glass Animals even staging a “secret” performance outside the shop in July. Videos on TikTok depicted a lively gathering of fans celebrating around fruit and vegetable stalls.

Reflecting on the impromptu concert, Priyesh expressed, “I felt a strong sense of community in our neighborhood. Amidst the rapid changes in a place like Stoke Newington, I worry about losing that sense of community and unity.”

Comments flooded the viral Instagram post, with users expressing heartfelt sentiments towards the store’s significance in the community. One individual wrote, “We have been fortunate to have you as our local store for 30 years. Over time, our families have expanded, and through thick and thin, you have always been there. What a treasure!”

Another person added, “I deeply miss my days at the corner shop in NW London (!!!) You cannot comprehend the significance of these small yet meaningful interactions in shaping your life.”

“These individuals are incredibly special, and I wish they were local to me. What genuinely kind-hearted people they are…”
