Must read

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, known for her role in Never Have I Ever, has discussed her upcoming role in the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, a project that has never been brought to the screen before.

The actress from Netflix emphasized the importance of original storytelling over remakes, expressing her optimism that the streaming service will lead the way in supporting fresh and innovative projects.

During an exclusive interview, Ramakrishnan shared how playing Beesha in the upcoming Netflix film inspired her to see more of Dahl’s lesser-known works make their way to the screen.

When asked which of Roald Dahl’s stories she would like to see adapted next and star in, Ramakrishnan pondered the choice between existing adaptations and new, untouched material.

Ramakrishnan, at 23 years old, also disclosed her favorite Dahl movie adaptation, citing it as a classic in the animation genre.

The actress expressed her reluctance to see more adaptations, urging for original stories to take precedence in the industry. She highlighted the significance of exploring new narratives rather than revisiting existing ones.

In the interview, Ramakrishnan praised Fantastic Mr Fox as her favorite Dahl movie adaptation, showing admiration for its unique qualities.

The animated film The Twits is a bold interpretation of Dahl’s original short story, featuring Ramakrishnan in the role of the courageous orphan Beesha, alongside her friend Bubsy portrayed by Ryan Lopez.

Veteran actress Margo Martindale stars as Mrs. Twit, while British comedian Johnny Vegas takes on the role of Mr. Twit in the film.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis of the movie directed by Phil Johnston, The Twits narrates the tale of the Twits, renowned for being the most unpleasant individuals, confronting a family of magical Muggle-Wumps and two brave children who stand against their cruelty.

The Twits is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, October 17.
