Man Admits to Wife’s Brutal Murder, Receives Life Sentence

Must read

A man has confessed to the vicious murder of his wife in 2020, leading to a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Joshua Brown admitted to brutally assaulting his wife, Shawntae Brown, to death using various items such as a belt, shoe, flagpole, and a handgun over a two-day span in September 2020. He then compelled his three children to clean up the aftermath and instructed them not to disclose the incident to anyone, as per investigators.

An affidavit detailing the probable cause disclosed that his wife’s body exhibited numerous bruises, contusions, and lacerations consistent with severe physical abuse.

Mark Myers, the public information officer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department, described the scene as “very gruesome,” emphasizing the traumatic experience the children had to endure.

Authorities were summoned to the Brown family’s home in Spencer on September 30, 2020, following reports of a violent disturbance. The couple’s three children, aged 7, 14, and 15, were present at the residence during the incident.

Upon emergency responders’ arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 34-year-old Shawntae Lynn Brown inside the house, along with Joshua Christian Brown and their children.

Brown informed responding officers that he had escalated the altercation with his wife beyond bounds. Subsequently, surveillance footage revealed him violently assaulting and strangling his wife.

According to The Oklahoman, the affidavit indicated that the 14-year-old child disclosed that Joshua Brown coerced them and their siblings to clean up the aftermath and instructed them to remain silent about the incident.

A semi-automatic handgun, which appeared to have been used in the assault, was recovered with visible blood and hair on the shattered fiber optic front sight.

Following his arrest, Brown faced charges of child abuse and murder, and he remained in custody without bail until he agreed to a plea deal entailing four life sentences, detailed by Law and Crime.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office consulted with Brown’s children before presenting the plea deal, as reported by KOKH. His daughter expressed that while she opposed his release, she did not advocate for his execution.

Expressing relief after the guilty plea, Brown’s daughter, Aliesha Brown, mentioned the emotional journey her family had undergone and the closure achieved through the legal process.

District Attorney Behenna, upon Brown’s admission of guilt, acknowledged the ongoing pain endured by the victim’s family while emphasizing that the sentence ensures the safety of others from the defendant’s harm. The commitment to pursuing justice for victims and their families, even amidst challenges, was highlighted.
