A man has been found guilty of first-degree murder for killing his pregnant girlfriend, who was identified as 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. The perpetrator, Donovan Faison, was convicted after the jury deliberated for just two hours regarding the 2022 incident. Kaylin’s body was discovered in a parked car with a gunshot wound on November 11 of that year.
Investigations revealed that Kaylin was three months pregnant when she was killed. She had engaged in multiple disputes with Faison concerning her choice to proceed with the pregnancy. Prosecutors in Seminole County, Florida, are now pursuing the death penalty for Faison, with the sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.
Following Kaylin’s demise, an inquiry disclosed that she had gone to Coastline Park with the intention of meeting someone she knew. At the time of her death, Kaylin was also the mother of a 1-year-old boy.
Expressing relief at the verdict, Kaylin’s aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, stated, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he’s not out hurting other people.”
Statistics from US crime reports indicate that approximately one in five homicide victims are murdered by an intimate partner. Moreover, over half of female homicide victims are killed by a current or former male intimate partner.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida recorded 1,361 homicides in 2023, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals. By comparison, England and Wales, with a population nearly three times that of Florida, reported 590 homicide victims in the year ending March 2023, as per the Office for National Statistics.
