Passengers on a routine train journey were horrified when a knifeman launched a violent attack, turning their commute into a nightmarish scene. Travelers aboard the 6.25pm LNER train from Doncaster to King’s Cross found themselves fleeing for safety as a mass stabbing unfolded, resulting in 11 individuals, including a man who heroically shielded a young girl, being rushed to the hospital. The train driver’s swift decision to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon allowed passengers to escape the chaos.

British Transport Police have charged a 32-year-old man, Anthony Williams, with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, in connection to the incident on the train and another incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station. The terrifying attack began in carriage J of the train shortly after departing Peterborough station, with passengers recalling the panic and horror as the knifeman indiscriminately targeted victims.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as they tried to flee the attacker, with one passenger recounting how he initially mistook the situation for a Halloween prank before realizing the severity of the situation. Victims of the attack displayed immense bravery and selflessness, with one man sustaining injuries while protecting a young girl from harm.

Heroic actions by the train driver and passengers helped contain the situation, with emergency services responding promptly to the crisis. The attacker, who continued his rampage through the train, was eventually subdued by armed police at Huntingdon station. Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of following police guidance during such emergencies.

Following the ordeal, British Transport Police confirmed that several casualties had been discharged from the hospital, while one individual, a member of the LNER rail staff, remains in critical condition. Detectives praised the heroic actions captured on train CCTV footage, acknowledging the efforts that saved numerous lives during the harrowing attack.
