“Meghan Markle’s Netflix Deal: Optimism Amidst Skepticism”

Must read

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has been actively engaged in various public appearances recently. From surprising attendees at Paris Fashion Week to socializing with high-profile friends in New York City and receiving a notable award with Prince Harry.

During a recent discussion on her business ventures, Meghan shared insights on her collaboration with Netflix. Following adjustments to their agreement with the streaming service, she expressed optimism about the updated terms, likening their ‘first look’ deal to the arrangement the Obamas have with Netflix. Despite Meghan’s positive outlook, some experts remain cautious about the situation.

Meghan and Prince Harry entered into an exclusive partnership with Netflix in 2020, reportedly valued at £75 million initially. While their documentary series about their relationship garnered significant viewership, their other productions for Netflix, like Meghan’s lifestyle show, With Love, received mixed reviews.

Speaking at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025, Meghan described the revised deal as a progressive step forward. She emphasized the flexibility the ‘first-look’ agreement provides, allowing them to explore partnerships and alternative outlets for content that may not align with Netflix’s preferences.

Expressing gratitude for the creative collaboration with Netflix, Meghan’s sentiments were met with skepticism by royal expert Jennie Bond, who suggested that the new deal may not necessarily signify strength as portrayed. Bond highlighted that the arrangement reflects a common approach by Netflix in commissioning programs, offering Meghan more freedom to pursue projects outside the platform.

Bond also noted a transition in Meghan’s professional focus towards influencer and business roles, commending her for diversifying her activities. Emphasizing Meghan’s independence and entrepreneurial endeavors post-royalty, Bond praised her adaptability and strategic moves in maximizing her public presence and potential earnings.
