Sky Q, known for its exceptional features, is considered a top-tier set-top box in the industry. Despite its popularity, Sky is transitioning away from satellite-based services to focus on internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This shift may pave the way for a potential competitor to enter the market.
Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that rivals Sky Q with similar functionalities. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for extensive storage of TV programs and movies, the Aura EZ offers a rare physical recording option in a landscape where such features are diminishing.
In addition to aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, enabling users to stream live TV over the internet. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely provides access to over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand content. This setup allows for easy relocation of the box, straightforward installation, and regular software updates.
The Aura EZ boasts 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a user-friendly integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the device remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, facilitating schedule browsing and recording management from anywhere.
While Freely lacks premium sports and movie content like Sky, it offers free usage without any subscription fees.
The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, with a retail price of £249.
Meanwhile, Sky has introduced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a discounted monthly rate. Priced at £24 per month, the package includes access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max service.
Sky’s bundle aims to provide value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms into one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will receive over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated directly into the TV guide.
The £24 bundle includes:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
