“Pacquiao in Talks for Mayweather Rematch”

Must read

Manny Pacquiao has verified discussions regarding a potential rematch with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. Negotiations, reportedly spearheaded by Netflix, are underway to bring together these two iconic figures of contemporary boxing.

Over a decade ago, the duo engaged in a highly anticipated match that generated over £500 million in US pay-per-view sales. Mayweather emerged victorious with a comfortable decision, although the fight fell short of the lofty expectations. Pacquiao attributed his lackluster performance to a shoulder injury post-fight.

The former eight-weight world champion Pacquiao surprised the boxing community by revealing plans for a rematch with Mayweather over a year ago. In response, Mayweather demanded a substantial $4 million payment from Pacquiao for prematurely publicizing the talks.

Undeterred, Pacquiao remains open to the idea of a rematch, emphasizing Mayweather’s willingness to return to the ring as the key factor. The 46-year-old boxer expressed his motivation and readiness to continue his boxing career, citing his recovery from a previous operation and overall good health.

Pacquiao recently fought Mario Barrios to a draw in July, aiming to secure the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus from the sport. In contrast, Mayweather has only engaged in two professional fights since then, against Andre Berto and MMA star Conor McGregor, maintaining an undefeated 50-0 record and mostly participating in exhibition matches against opponents like Logan Paul and John Gotti III.

Interestingly, Pacquiao does not rank Mayweather among his top opponents, listing Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito instead. Pacquiao criticized Mayweather’s fighting style in their previous encounter, labeling it as unexciting and not meeting fan expectations of a thrilling and competitive bout.
