Heather Bluer, a 45-year-old solicitor from Bolton, started encountering symptoms resembling panic attacks amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. She was eventually diagnosed with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a condition affecting both the lungs and liver.
Initially attributing her symptoms to personal stress and the challenges of rejoining society post-lockdown, Heather’s health deteriorated rapidly. Despite being treated for anxiety and depression, she continued to suffer, leading to further medical investigations.

On June 19, 2024, Heather received the life-changing call informing her of a donor match, necessitating immediate transport to Wythenshawe Hospital’s Heart and Lung Transplant Centre in Manchester.
After a swift transition to surgery, Heather underwent the transplant procedure, which ultimately saved her life.
