Former “This Morning” personality, Richard Madeley, impressed audiences by winning a remarkable £10,000 on Celebrity Catchphrase in the nick of time. Participating alongside host Stephen Mulhern, comedian Axel Black, and radio personality Sian Welby, Richard competed in a charity special edition of Catchphrase.
After surpassing Axel and Sian, Richard advanced to the final 60-second round, where he had to quickly respond to queries about well-known phrases. Progressing through the Catchphrase tiers, Richard accumulated £2,500 and £5,000 from the first two rows before tackling the challenging third row, which included box number 11.
By correctly solving the puzzle in box 11, Richard not only boosted his own winnings to £10,000 but also doubled the amounts earned by Axel and Sian in previous rounds. Despite having only five seconds remaining, Richard confidently selected box 11, where he deciphered the visual clue “FEW” and “FAR,” concluding with “Few and far between” in the final second. This victory added £10,000 to his existing £7,400, resulting in a total of £17,400.
As per the game rules, Axel and Sian’s prizes also doubled due to box 11, with Axel receiving £800 and Sian securing £6,000. In total, the charity fundraiser amassed £24,200.
Richard’s career highlights include his early days on BBC Radio Carlisle, followed by his tenure on Granada Reports in the 1980s where he met his wife, Judy Finnigan. The couple later co-hosted “This Morning” from 1988 to 2001 before transitioning to their own show, “Richard & Judy,” on Channel 4, which concluded in 2009. Richard has since appeared as a relief presenter on “Good Morning Britain” and recently shared a personal anecdote on the show about receiving driving penalty points.
