Russia launched over 650 drones and fifty missiles into Ukraine, leading to widespread destruction and blackouts across the country. The attacks resulted in at least two fatalities in Zaporizhzhia and 17 serious injuries, including six children. Pressure from the US to halt the conflict intensified as Western areas near the Polish border were targeted, prompting Polish warplanes to be on alert in case of missile incursions.
The assault featured various weapons, including Kinzhal air-launched missiles, ballistic explosives, Kh-101 cruise missiles, and Shahed drones designed as “kamikaze” units. Alerts sounded throughout Ukraine, triggering air defenses in most regions, causing casualties, property damage, and fires. While drones attacked Kyiv, there were no reported deaths, indicating Moscow’s intent to disrupt civilian utilities like heating.
Zaporizhzhia endured sustained strikes with numerous drones and missiles, resulting in the destruction of an entire apartment building. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strikes by stating that many incoming threats were intercepted but some managed to cause damage. The city of Dnipro faced missile attacks overnight, with 22 drones neutralized in the Dnipropetrovsk region, reaching areas far from the frontline.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, cruise missiles caused explosions, leading to power outages confirmed by Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv. The Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant, a crucial energy hub connecting Ukraine with neighboring countries, faced repeated damage during the conflict but remained operational. Shelling in Mykolaiv disrupted power supply and railway services, while attacks on energy facilities near Poland in the Lviv region caused further disruptions.
Ladyzhyn in the Vinnytsia region was left without essential services following the strikes, prompting authorities to prepare alternative heating and water supply measures. Poland responded by deploying fighter jets and early warning aircraft, placing air defense systems on high alert in response to Russia’s aggression. The Polish Operational Command confirmed active operations in their airspace to counter the attacks and maintain readiness for any further escalation.
