The family of a schoolgirl who was viciously raped and killed by a 27-year-old woman claims that her father succumbed to sorrow due to the tragic events that unfolded.
Shortly after being reported missing in October 2022, the lifeless body of 12-year-old Lola Daviet was discovered mutilated and crammed into a plastic container outside the apartment building in Paris where she resided with her family.
Following a conviction for her rape, torture, and murder, Algerian-born Dahbia Benkired was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 30 years. Notably, she became the first woman in French legal history to receive a whole-life sentence.
During the trial, it was revealed that Benkired allegedly carried out the heinous acts as retribution for the girl’s mother denying her access to the building by withholding a key.
A significant controversy ensued in France following Benkired’s arrest in 2022, revealing her illegal overstay on a student visa after being detained at a Paris airport earlier that year. Lola’s parents denounced any exploitation of their daughter’s name or image for political purposes at that time.
Tragically, Lola’s father, Johan Daviet, passed away at the age of 49 in February the previous year, reportedly overwhelmed by grief after his daughter’s untimely demise. His wife, Delphine Daviet, testified in court that he resorted to heavy drinking, ultimately succumbing to his inner turmoil.
Before his death, he left a poignant letter at Benkired’s apartment door expressing his love for Lola and questioning the brutality she endured. Lola’s brother, Thibault Daviet, also spoke on behalf of the family during the trial, emphasizing the need for truth and justice.
Footage presented in court depicted Benkired inspecting the suitcase containing Lola’s body at a busy Paris bar shortly after the murder. Disturbingly, the numbers ‘1’ and ‘0’ were found written on the victim’s feet, and a doctor confirmed the extent of Lola’s injuries before her death.
As the trial progressed, family members left the courtroom as graphic images of Lola’s injuries were displayed, showcasing the severe trauma she suffered. Details emerged of visible injuries to her private areas, a large wound on her face, as well as back and head wounds.
On the fateful day of the incident, Lola was last seen entering the apartment building and interacting with Benkired before being taken inside. Benkired allegedly transported Lola’s body around Paris in a plastic box before abandoning it on the street, where it was discovered by a passerby.
At the commencement of the trial, Benkired expressed remorse and sought forgiveness from the victim’s family. She was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of early release.
The tragic case of Lola Daviet continues to stir emotions and prompt discussions on justice and accountability in the French legal system.
