A teenager was assaulted by a crocodile while engaged in fishing activities with his companions. The 14-year-old, along with two non-local friends, was fishing in water up to their waists when the incident occurred. Remarkably, he survived a ‘death roll’ maneuver executed by the crocodile, where the predator clutches its prey with its powerful jaws and performs a series of rotations to submerge and drown the victim.
Following the attack, the boy was swiftly transported to a nearby hotel where he received initial treatment for injuries to his leg and abdomen. Subsequently, he was airlifted to Cairns Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition by Sunday evening. The assault transpired 100km north of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia, on a Saturday afternoon.
A spokesperson from the Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed that a male teenager with leg and abdominal wounds was airlifted to Cairns Hospital after a crocodile attack at a public beach. This incident occurred shortly after a tragic event where a tourist lost his life in a crocodile attack while disregarding warning signs at a game reserve offering live “feeding experiences.”
The victim in the fatal attack was a 56-year-old father visiting Bonamanzi Game Reserve in South Africa with his wife and children. Ignoring multiple prominent signs cautioning guests to avoid the water, he proceeded to fish in the Hluhluwe River. Within moments, a 12-foot crocodile emerged, seized him, and dragged him into the river. The distressing event unfolded at the expansive reserve located approximately 150 miles north of Durban.
An eyewitness described the harrowing scene as chaos ensued following the sudden attack. Despite desperate attempts to fend off the aggressive crocodile, the victim was overpowered and pulled underwater, ultimately succumbing to the predator. The rescue efforts were unsuccessful, and the man’s body resurfaced hours later in a distressed state.
The victim, identified as a 56-year-old South African man from Richards Bay, had reportedly planned a weekend getaway with his family at the reserve. The facility offers guests the opportunity to witness or participate in feeding sessions for the crocodiles every other Saturday, although it remains unclear if this activity was available on the day of the fatal incident.
