Tesco is set to distribute numerous complimentary Christmas trees on a single day. These trees, categorized as “wonky,” have slight imperfections like uneven branch spacing or a slight tilt that would typically disqualify them from regular sale. However, Tesco will be offering them for free on Saturday, December 6, at specific stores, encouraging recipients to donate to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be available at selected locations, including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra, starting at 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. Comparable Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 from Aldi and £14.99 from Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized the joy of embracing imperfect moments, noting that these “wonky” trees, with a touch of care and creative ornament placement, can bring charm to any home while supporting the charitable causes of Trussell and Fareshare.
A recent Tesco survey revealed that nearly a quarter of Britons choose the second weekend of December to decorate their Christmas tree. The survey also indicated that 87% of respondents believe Christmas doesn’t have to be flawless to be special, with 74% agreeing that imperfect moments define the holiday spirit. The survey, conducted by Censuswide, polled 2,000 UK adults between August 22 and 28 and December 1 and 2.
In other news, Tesco announced a promotion offering Clubcard members double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift cards purchased at Tesco stores. The double points scheme extends to any gift card, not just Tesco’s, automatically credited to Clubcard accounts. Tesco, with approximately 24 million Clubcard members, rewards points for various purchases, including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile, and Tesco credit card expenditures. Accumulated Clubcard points can be redeemed for vouchers to use at Tesco stores.
