A 72-year-old British woman tragically passed away following a head-on collision at a dangerous location in Spain. The incident occurred on the N-332 near Santa Pola, close to the road leading to the Santa Pola lighthouse, around 2 pm on Tuesday. According to the Guardia Civil, the woman’s vehicle, traveling towards Alicante, veered onto the opposite lane and collided with a motorhome.
Reports indicate that the woman went into cardiac arrest despite initially being conscious after the accident. Despite attempts to resuscitate her, her pulse could not be restored, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old Belgian man driving the motorhome sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, while his wife, also in the vehicle, remained unharmed.
The collision caused significant traffic congestion on the N-332, lasting until approximately 5:30 pm when the wrecked motorhome was towed away. Forensic teams spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence for an investigation report.
This location has a history of numerous accidents, with the N-332 near Santa Pola municipality recording high accident rates mainly due to visibility challenges during overtaking attempts.
In a separate incident last month, a tragic car accident in Calpe, Costa Blanca, resulted in the death of a three-week-old baby girl and severe injuries to her mother. The mother and daughter were struck by a runaway car while out for a walk, leading to the baby’s death and the mother’s amputation of one leg and a blood clot.
Local authorities are investigating the accident, which is suspected to be caused by a faulty handbrake on the vehicle that hit the mother and child. The baby was in a pram pushed by her mother during the incident, and the vehicle involved is believed not to be theirs.
